We know what you’re thinking: Travel & Leisure? How September 10th.
And while it’s true that the previous two decades were all about extravagant excursions and even more extravagant downtime activities, we would argue that life during wartime has turned out to have its own particular blend of Travel & Leisure.
For example, who knew it would cost so little to fly to Europe? The paper’s full of half-page ads hawking quarter-priced fares to London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Rome. Granted, only the most masochistic of Americans would dare go to London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Rome at this point in time, when it seems as if it’s the U.S. versus the world.
Still, it’s tempting when an airline offers round-trip flights to London a few pounds short of $250, with two free nights lodging thrown in. And it’s almost irresistible if you’re one of the thousands who find yourself lying on the ever-growing heap of the unemployed each fresh week--in which case, you’re fully aware of the amount of leisure time to be had.
Besides, when the locals ask, you can always say you’re from Canada.
Or, you could just stay home, spend a little time on your computer, and sample the words and images we’ve assembled this month to take you places.
